New year, new you, right? OK, but what about the old you? Have you taken a moment to think about the great things you do every day and how wonderful you are? That little voice will probably kick in at this point, your inner critic telling you that this post must be aimed at someone else, but it is not, it is aimed at you. Wonderful, marvellous you! Why? Because you are smashing it! Life is rarely smooth and likes to throw obstacles at you when you are least expecting it. Yet you get up each day ready to face every challenge waiting for you. You get out there, do what needs to be done, return home, dust yourself off then rest in preparation for the next day. As I said you are smashing it! OK, maybe you feel that you could be a little healthier, maybe you are aiming to drink a little less alcohol or renew that gym membership, and that is great, but also take a moment to appreciate how awesome you are too. You have many qualities, hundreds in fact but I bet you could not name them. I challenge you to write down 10 amazing things about you, right now, write them down. If you are like many people you will struggle to find 10. But you have them, many of them, you just don’t see them any more. So this year, make it your new year’s resolution to start seeing yourself, appreciating yourself and being kind to yourself. Treat yourself as you would your best friend, someone you love dearly. Every time you have to make a choice, ask yourself ‘What would someone who loves themself do?’ The relationship you have with yourself is the most important you will ever have so give it the time, attention and love it deserves. Put yourself higher up the priority list. It is not selfish to put your needs first, it is essential.
